Kamerlengo's Castle Trogir knowledge conservation enhancement scientific project
The research started with a first experience developed thanks to international cooper-ation between the DIDA - Department of Architecture of the University of Florence, CNR (National Research Council) and GRADST - Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy of Split. The case study concerns the analysis of an area with-in the tourist City of Trogir which old town, UNESCO world heritage site, developed on a little island on the north-western entrance of the Castle's Bay of the Central Dalmatia (30km from Split). The first part of the collaboration has been focused on the interesting Kamerlengo's Castle, an architectural complex located at the extreme northwest of the island. The fortification was built after 1420 on pre-ex-isting fortified facilities dating from the 1380. The fortification is composed of a square plan high walls built around the main tower, an high corner tower with po-lygonal plan. The fortification along with the near Tower of San Marco is the most important part of the medieval and re-naissance fortified walls of the city. The Kamerlengo's Castle has, nowadays, the appearance and the main architectural features resulting from the intervention of the Republic of Venice done on the basis of the Pincino da Bergamo's draws by the master builder Marin Radojev. The scientific project aims to define an update picture of the structure of the cas-tle including some photogrammetric and laser-scanner survey based diagnostic con-siderations about the building. This first intervention attempts to define methodol-ogies and tools that could be subsequent-ly used to analyze the morphological, architectonical, technical and structural eatures of the whole settlement. The objec-tive of the project is the construction of an appropriate framework for the preservation and the enhancement of the UNESCO site, considering the historic, cultural and social value of the intervention area through the cooperation between the various institution involved and the highly interdisciplinary na-ture of the planned activities.
